On the bottom deck of the Routemaster nightbus Ed Balls, moonlighting as the conductor, is embarrassed to see her again, the last time had been at his wedding, Clara regrets they’ve lost touch but just knows from his eyes that something has gone terribly wrong and the marriage is something she must not ask about/she is working for a woman operating a pile driver on the M1 by the Sculpture Park and arrives saying, ‘just give me a high vis vest and helmet, I’ll keep this’ and she hugs the box of sandwiches to her tummy, looks at the purple painted roof of the camper van they sleep in, the gold stripe down the middle.
Clara is woken by light falling across her ceiling.
